Athena Bitcoin, the company managing El Salvador’s crypto ATMs, aims to integrate the Lightning Network into 100 machines in the next months. Athena Bitcoin Global and Genesis Coin have already enabled Lightning Network technology in their infrastructure. The move promises faster withdrawals, reduced transaction fees, and avoids main network data recording. Currently, only 3.7% of global crypto ATMs support this technology. Athena plans to implement Lightning support in state-owned Chivo ATMs in El Salvador by December 2023 and extend it to other kiosks by Q1 2024.
