Pick n Pay, one of the largest supermarket chains in South Africa, will soon allow customers to use Bitcoin to pay for items at all its stores. The company started experimenting with cryptocurrency payments five years ago, but high costs and long transaction wait times held it back from rolling out the service.
The nationwide rollout will allow customers to pay for items using cryptocurrency at the store by scanning a QR code or through “trusted apps” on their smartphones.
